yes but only the positive fan reviews get kept, and thats not a fair opinion of how the fragrance comes across to all of us, theres no need to all jump on me or assume i dont like vintages or wasnt even a thought in existance just because i dont rate the drugstore cheapie dana tabu as a very good perfume. so yes for an under perfume i guess its a piece of work. Just a fact of life that we each have differing tastes and opinions! Im afraid to say i am a huge vintage lover, i have vintage shalimar, opium, coco chanel, paloma picasso, etc etc. it cannot hold up to these grand dames and yet it is lamented everywhere as such and that i find misleading.

i am experiencing the last legs of the dry down now and can smell a soft comforting resinous fragrant, but that does not save the whole experience for me and just because something is old or has history doesnt mean its good. You say nasty and cheap, I find it lovely and sexy and charming. im happy others find pleasure in it but i find it sad some grand classics are overseen 'due to price' and this by many held up as a well formed oriental, just because its affordable and there for accessible, and its just not, it smells cheap as what it is.

Now that it's winter, I'm kinda obsessed with Tabu. Vintage Tabu EDC is very much like vintage Bal a Versailles EDC in my opinion. This is about the current formulation, which I understand captures the essence of the scent. FINDINGS: This is a very odd fragrance, but it is strangely modern by the late 80s standards. I am not saying it smells like them, but it has the musky nature of Kouros (NOT as animalic and pissy LOL) and the sweetness of Ted Lapidus Pour Homme.

I found a 2 oz vintage cologne on ebay for -14, and snagged it. It's diff than the modern/current cello/violin shaped EDC in that it's more animal/musky-- which was EXACTLY what I wanted. Ted Lapidus has a honey sweetness; whereas, this one has a root beer (as noted in other reviews) type of sweetness.

If one cannot tolerate the scent one should as least respect the history.

This is a fragrance "TO TEST" for ALL fragrance collectors and people who like the way fragrances performed "back in the day".Tabu was that night you wore thigh-high stockings but forgot your fake ID, so someone's older sister gave you rootbeer schnapps and after the party you watched the sunrise drinking Constant Comment tea with the guy your friend wanted. I wore this once in high school and the boy who never noticed me asked my name, and the skirt I'd worn all year got measured with a ruler twice. I need to give this at least fifteen minutes on my skin before it really starts to shine as it can smell a little chemical/synthetic and aggressive upon immediate application for me. I’m going to have some fun experimenting and layering this with other fragrances which I love doing these days. My Tabu cologne in the violin shaped bottle is DIVINE in the cold. It's not as appealing as my favorite, Chanel No 5, but I definitely don't mind it and will wear it sometimes. it smells very current, or at least current in a 1970's way! Make no mistake, this is no lightweight, but a couple of spritzes is plenty and this is a lovely smoky, slightly woody scent. Lasts on clothing until laundry day, and even after laundry day, you might still get a slight whiff of this if you sniff hard.My mother took the bottle away and told me I could have it back when I went to college. Maybe layering it with something sweeter would help. Sweet, mellow, smooth creamy root beer with spice/musk... My daughter said it smells like "that incense you always burn" (nag champra) which I don't agree with. It is warm, spicy, soft, powdery and sexy as hell!! I use one spray on the back of my neck, one spray on my chest and one spray on my wrists (wrists lightly pressed together, not rubbed). Still, I would not say this is a safe blind buy, even though this is so affordable.I wear it sometimes to remember my grandfather and always makes me a bit teary eyed when I wear it around the house. From Tabu I get a sort of moist and warm amber, spices, sweetness, an incense kind of accord, a dry and woody vetiver, mixed florals and finally, a cassis type of a slightly pissy smell. I got into vintages after exhausting the gourmand genre (haha) and I tried Youth Dew prematurely.... It's sweeter than YD, but still too musky and old/generic. The first time I put it on it was too sweet, and reminded me of toilet bowl cleaner. Then, a week later I retrieved it from the bin and gave it one more try. One spray only, but after the drydown it's quite nice. I only get a compliment when someone gets near, or close to me. After all, the same nose that created this, Jean Charles, also created Miss Dior, back in 1947.I think its a great addition to your collection if you are interested in perfume history, plus its really cheap. In a good way, if there is such a thing as a good pissy smell. The patchouli is clearly detectable in here too, adding to the hippyish incense vibe. it was one of my first vintage blind buys and it was just waaaay too "old granny" so I sold it. (Reformulations and the drug store status/price I suppose.) As far as Tabu-type scents go, I prefer original Obsession. but here we are in winter already (November in Upper Michigan) and I LOVE BOTH NOW! I started a cozy day at home with Youth Dew cologne on my torso (finely misted), a drop of the YD bath oil on my clavicle "dip", and then about 6 hours later-- put on Tabu cologne over the whole package. I can tell I like it because I keep smelling my arm. I avoided this for the longest time, thinking this would be heavy and overpowering.
